The Role of Technology
Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences is a powerful tool in the learning process. Technology gives
educators the ability to address the needs of different types of learners. With
new technology tools we are able to provide transformative learning experiences
by teaching in new ways that could not be done with the traditional method of
pencil and paper. As educators, we are able to reference content in a variety
of ways for all different learning styles. In many cases, technology allows for immediate assessment, and the teacher can see which concepts are mastered and which concepts need more review.
In addition to teaching, technology immensely benefits the quality of learning for students. The use of iPads, computers, smart boards, etc. provides accessibility as well as unlimited information. Students have the opportunity to do new things that they could not do in the past. Many of the technology tools are easy to use, can be set for the appropriate age levels, and are easy to navigate. Along with accessibility, technology allows for dependent learners and collaboration. With technology being available it allows students to work smarter and not harder. They are able to quickly find the information and then there is more time to analyze the information as well as to understand the information and determine why it is useful/important. Many forms of technology allow for collaboration because students can share work with each other and give feedback.
